New Mission Presidents Begin Work

Four new mission presidents and their wives, began service in the Africa Southeast Area in July 2010. They are: Julie P. and Steven H. Broadbent, Kenya Nairobi Mission; Eric C. and M. Kaye Jackson, Uganda Kampala Mission; Gary L. and Paula Packer, Democratic Republic of Congo Lubumbashi Mission; and Aleta M. and James C. Von Stetten, South Africa Durban Mission.

Steven Harvey Broadbent, 66, and Julie Pingree Broadbent, five children, Kenya Nairobi Mission; Pleasant View 6th Ward, Pleasant View Utah Stake. Brother Broadbent is a former missionary in the Mozambique Maputo Mission, counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, bishop, stake Young Men president and missionary in the Northeast British Mission. Retired orthodontist. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harvey Murdock and Louise Freestone Bawden Broadbent.

Sister Broadbent served with her husband in the Mozambique Maputo Mission, served on the Young Women General Board, and is a former stake and ward Young Women president and Cub Scout leader. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Henry and Melba Nye Pingree.

Eric Carrol Jackson, 65, and Mary Kaye Sheets Jackson, six children, Uganda Kampala Mission; Willow Creek 9th Ward, Sandy Utah Willow Creek Stake. Brother Jackson was the public affairs director in the Africa Southeast Area and a former counselor in a bishopric, high councilor, stake mission president and inner-city Spanish mission director. Chief executive officer, Peterbilt of Utah. Born in Hobart, Okla., to Aaron Carrol and Ruth L. Fowler Jackson.

Sister Jackson was an assistant public affairs director in the Africa Southeast Area and is a former assistant director in the inner-city Spanish mission, ward Young Women president and counselor, stake Young Women camp director and ward family history representative. Born in Roosevelt, Okla., to Ralph Alvin and Ana Mae Barker Sheets.

Gary Lowell Packer, 59, and Paula Pearson Packer, five children, Democratic Republic of Congo Lubumbashi Mission; Compton Bench Ward, Farmington Utah North Stake. He served as the executive secretary to the Area Presidency of the Africa Southeast Area and is a former temple missionary in the Johannesburg South Africa Temple, real estate missionary in the Africa Southeast Area, bishop, high councilor and missionary in the Franco-Belgian Mission. Retired corporate vice president and commercial department manager, First American Title Insurance Agency of Utah. Born in Brigham City, Utah, to Lowell Wight and Dorothy La Venna Marble Packer.

Sister Packer served as the assistant executive secretary to the Area Presidency of the Africa Southeast Area and served with her husband in the Johannesburg South Africa Temple and Africa Southeast Area and is a former ward Relief Society president and counselor, ward Primary president, counselor in a ward Young Women presidency and ward Relief Society teacher. Born in Provo, Utah, to Glenn Laurentz and Ardith Amelia Hunsaker Pearson.

James Cleland Von Stetten, 59, and Aleta Maureen Arnold Von Stetten, five children, South Africa Durban Mission; Reading 1st Ward, Reading Pennsylvania Stake. Brother Von Stetten is a former missionary in the Africa Southeast Area serving as an Area Perpetual Education Fund director, counselor in a stake presidency, bishop and counselor, high priest group leader and seminary teacher. Retired National Account director, Steinway Musical Instruments. Born in Coatesville, Penn., to Wayne and Margaret Kepner Best Von Stetten.

Sister Von Stetten served with her husband in the Africa Southeast Area and is a former stake Primary president, ward Young Women president, ward Relief Society president and teacher and ward librarian. Born in Martinez, Calif., to Earl James and Bonnie Louise Morrison Arnold.
